2018 Martin Ray Rosé of Pinot Noir, Sonoma County
Coming from a small percentage of nearly all of our premium Russian River, Green Valley, and Carneros vineyards. Each picked at its ideal ripeness to maximize the flavors of our Pinot Noir, the subsequent Rosé also takes on the complex bouquet and palate.
Cooler winter temperatures, with first signs of budbreak in March. Steady growing temperatures with intermittent heat spikes in June and July. Temperate throughout August with higher than average yields and excellent quality. Harvest began late August.
Our Rosé is produced by saignée method, in which we pick ripe, flavorful fruit, crush it to a stainless steel tank, and allow 6-8 hours of contact with the skins to achieve optimal color and flavor extraction. We drain the juice to several tanks inoculating some with a specialized Rhone yeast, and others with yeasts to enhance the natural color and fruit character throughout fermentation.
Notes of fresh strawberry, bright bing cherry, and English Rose. Complemented by bosc pear, ripe cantaloupe, watermelon rind, and honeysuckle.
