2017 Martin Ray Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
From above the fog line on Sonoma Mountain, to sunny hillsides slopes of Dry Creek Valley and warm, sundrenched vineyards in Alexander Valley. All areas prone to daytime highs and greater shifts in cooler temperatures at night.
Record setting rain and cooler temperatures lengthened dormancy, with first signs of budbreak mid-March. Hotter than average days in June and July brought harvest mid-August with lower than average yields across all varieties.
Night harvested in ½ ton bins, hand sorted and destemmed to small, open-top fermenters. Four day cold-soak, two weeks extended maceration, basket pressed to 45% new French oak for 14 months.
Wild Blackberry, spicy persimmon, mild, dry pepper and subtle caramel. Medium-bodied with structured tannins and clean fruit throughout the palate.
