2017 Martin Ray Sonoma Coast Reserve Pinot Noir
Taking pride in the myriad of fruit profiles that develop from cool climate and elevation, we often think of the Sonoma Coast as the most varied and vitnage-driven of all our single vineyards.
An esteemed small vineyard outside Freestone in the Occidental Hills.
Lingering morning fog hangs long into the day, before giving way to warm, direct sun, giving the vines an extended growing season.
100% Pinot Noir
Record setting rain and cooler temperatures lengthened dormancy, with first signs of budbreak mid-March. Hotter than average days brought Harvest mid-August with lower than average yields.
Clones separated by lot and fermented individually in small open-top fermenters with gentle punch-downs. Maintained at moderate temperatures until dry, basket-pressed, and racked to 40% new French oak for 14 months.
Vibrant Rainier cherry, black and red raspberry with coastal notes of bay laurel and eucalyptus. Silky, refined tannins and touches of earl grey tea wtih subtle vanilla bean.
