2015 Martin Ray Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2015 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is exclusively available to our wine club members upon release in May 2018.
The grapes for this wine were sourced in Russian River Valley from the Mill Station Vineyard in Green Valley. Back in the 1970’s, Martin Ray was one of the fiOur 2015 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a collection of tiny vineyard blocks encompassing several row orientations and slopes, all carefully planted to optimize sun exposure. Just a mile wide and three miles long, Stags Leap district is bound by rocky hillsides to the east and the Napa River to the west. The soil is composed of ancient volcanic alluvial runoff which produces low yields with great intensity and flavor. The culmination of factors from another drought year in California surprised us with another wonderful Cabernet vintage, with the true purity of fruit culminating in this bottling.rst wineries to highlight the stellar Dutton Ranch fruit in their bottlings, and we continue this long term partnership today. Mill Station possesses the rare combination of excellent soil, old vines and ideal climate to consistently produce Chardonnay with finesse, and farmed by one of the most meticulous growers in the region.
Often defined by its subtlety in contrast to the much more immodest mountain Cabernets, with deep red currant, morello cherry, and fresh raspberry . As is typical of the Stags Leap District Cabernet, it is always the first out of the gate with an early appreciable mellowing of its tannins and forward presentation. Subtle nutmeg, dried sage, and plum offer a lingering finish of quintessential Napa terroir.
