2015 Martin Ray Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir
This being only the second vintage from our own estate vineyards, and a record small crop throughout the industry, at that, we still couldn't resist the temptation to make our favorite wine from the selection of Dijon clones we were picking for our traditional Pinot Noir. With 7 different clones to pick from, we based our Rose on the deeply colored, dense clusters of 943 and the traditional spices and aromatics of 115. Both clones were hand-picked and destemmed to separate open-top tanks where they were chilled and allowed skin contact for several hours before we saigneed the juice to a small stainless steel tank for a long, cool fermentation to preserve the wine's natural bright fruit and subtle spice.
This impeccable Rose opens with bright fresh red strawberry, tropical passionfruit, guava, and ripe watermelon. Beneath its fruit-driven top layer is a complex and complimentary base of zesty candied ginger, and floral jasmine blossoms. Not to be underestimated by its delicate, blushed pink hue, this wine has a juicy front palate with a deceivingly round middle, maintained by clean, honed acidity.
