2013 Martin Ray Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Sourced from steeply sloping hillside vineyards planted along the foothills of the Mayacama Mountain Range. These grapes exhibit the quintessential characteristics of the Rutherford appellation: fine tannins, lush cherry flavors, and deep, inky color.
Hand-picked, sorted and destemmed to both small stainless-steel open-top and French oak. Closed top fermenters. Fermented at warm temperatures, and left to sit on skins for up to 30 days before basket-pressing to barrel. Aged for 16 months on 70% new French oak barrels selected for early integration and their propensity to accentuate the fruit's natural deep red fruit flavor.
Driven by Rutherford's famous red fruit and distinct spiciness, this wine is dominated by notes of baked cherries, red plums, and figs layered on savory herbs, dried tea leaves, and a hint of hazelnut. Lush and full-bodied with a broad, round mid-palate, supported by structured, but well-integrated tannins, and a subtle toffee finish.
