2013 Martin Ray Reserve Dark Star Hill Pinot Noir
The newest addition to our Reserve tier of Pinot Noirs, this lot comes from a small hillside vineyard that overlooks the tiny town of Freestone in the southwest corner of the Russian River Valley AVA.
Hand-picked, sorted and destemmed into three open-top fermenters, each separated by clone. Each lot is separately fermented, pressed, and aged individually, and then blended prior to bottling to provide the ideal equilibrium among its fresh fruit, plush mouthfeel, and aromatic spices. Then aged for 16 months on 50% new French oak.
Juicy cherry, cola nut, savory herbs and Asian spices, with an underlying graphite minerality and a hint of butterscotch from the oak. Full, plush mouthfeel. Dense red fruit up front rounded by the definitive Freestone spice profile, and a lightly oaky finish.
