2013 Martin Ray "Puccioni" Dry Creek Zinfandel
Our Dry Creek Zinfandel comes entirely from Puccioni Vineyards within the hills of the western Dry Creek Valley. The appellation has a special reputation for its robust Zinfandel, and this is no exception. Often one of the last lots to ripen, it is worth the wait in its development of its opulent concentrated flavors.
Our Zinfandel grapes are carefully hand-sorted and destemmed into a small open-top fermenter where they are cold-soaked for up to 4 days before being inoculated with a voracious Rhone yeast developed to be able to withstand the high natural sugars of the Zinfandel while promoting the signature jammy fruit aromas. It ferments at warm temperatures for 7-10 days, the is basket pressed and racked to oak for secondary fermentation and aging.
Layered aromas of raspberry jam, baked blackberry pie, with spicy hints of red pepper, on a foundation of toasty vanilla and toffee. Fully ripened fruit, and a carefully chosen oak regime, gives this full-bodied Zinfandel a broad, smooth palate, with earthy undertones and balancing oak. The silky tannins carry out the finish.
